Individualised Autism Support
Tailored Strategies For Your Child’s Unique Needs
When it comes to supporting your child, every family is unique, and so is every child’s journey. The support I provide is always personalised to meet your child’s individual needs, meaning we focus on the areas that are most relevant and important to them.
Below is an overview of the main areas where support is often provided, but please know that a tailored plan will prioritise what matters most for your child’s development and well-being.
If you’re unsure which areas would be most helpful for your child, please feel free to reach out to discuss your family’s unique needs. I can help guide you in choosing the support that feels right.
For families looking to address multiple areas of support, many find that a combination of 2- 3 core areas works best. This allows us to tailor the support to suit your child’s development and your family’s routine, helping you feel confident and empowered every step of the way.
-
Our aim is to support your child in expressing themselves in ways that feel authentic and comfortable, whether through spoken language, gestures, sign language, or other communication methods. We’ll work together to explore the best methods that work for your child, ensuring that they are able to communicate their needs, thoughts, and feelings in ways that make sense to them, and that their voice is always heard.
-
Our work in this area supports your child in connecting with others in ways that feel authentic and meaningful to them. Rather than focusing on rigid social norms, we’ll support them in building relationships that match their own preferences, creating positive social interactions that align with how they experience and interact with the world. Together we’ll help them build positive, meaningful relationships at a pace that feels comfortable for them.
-
When challenges arise, it’s important to understand the reasons behind behaviours and find ways to address them that feel supportive and affirming. Together, we’ll identify the root causes and develop strategies that are compassionate and person-centred. We will focus on reducing stress and anxiety, while promoting behaviours that help your child navigate their environment with greater ease and security.
-
For children with sensory sensitivities, this support focuses on helping them navigate and manage how they embrace the world. Together, we’ll build coping strategies, nurture self-awareness, and design sensory-friendly environments tailored to their unique needs, such as sensitivities to light, sound, or touch. By addressing sensory overload and equipping your child with practical tools, we aim to create a sense of safety and calm, empowering them to engage with their surroundings more comfortably and confidently.
-
Helping your child understand and manage their emotions is key to fostering resilience and reducing moments of distress. We’ll work on helping your child recognize and express their feelings, empowering them to develop the emotional skills needed to manage anxiety, frustration, or overwhelm. We will also explore emotional regulation tools that fit your child’s individual needs, providing a safe space for them to practice self-awareness and coping strategies. If your child experiences mood difficulties such as anxiety or depression, we will incorporate appropriate techniques to help them manage these challenges in a way that aligns with their strengths.
-
Sleep can be a challenging area for many children, and it’s important to approach this with understanding and respect for your child’s unique needs. We’ll work together to create a sleep routine that supports your child’s natural rhythm and comfort, while promoting healthier sleep patterns over time. The focus is not only on helping your child feel more at ease with sleep, but also on creating a consistent routine that encourages better restfulness, relaxation, and overall sleep quality. Through tailored support, we aim to reduce any stress or discomfort around sleep, fostering long-term improvements in your child’s sleep habits.
-
Toileting can be a sensitive area for both children and families, so it’s important to approach this with patience and respect- for your child’s pace. We’ll work together to develop a supportive routine that empowers your child to feel confident and comfortable with toileting. We’ll focus on strategies that align with your child’s sensory preferences and communication style, providing support that helps reduce any anxiety or stress around this milestone. The goal is to approach toileting in a way that feels manageable for your child, supporting them in gaining independence while respecting their unique developmental needs.
-
Mealtimes can be a source of stress and anxiety for children with autism, and our goal is to make this experience as positive and comfortable as possible. We’ll focus on building trust and reducing any anxiety around food by creating a supportive and understanding environment. This approach empowers your child to develop a healthier relationship with eating, fostering a sense of accomplishment and well-being. We will explore mealtimes and food at a pace that feels right for your child, always respecting their choices and boundaries. Our aim is to make mealtimes a more enjoyable and less stressful part of your daily life, creating an environment that feels safe and inviting.
